Clean all white kitchen highlighting our 28 Step Process

Can cabinet painting be amazing? (with our 28 Step Process the answer is absolutely!)

Welcome to Family Cabinet Coatings!

Painting cabinets or refinishing cabinets makes what we do sound simple and basic but there is So Much More to our art than that.

When done “the right way” painting kitchen cabinets is definitely an art and our strict 28 Step Process ensures the absolute best results.

If you’re tired of your old kitchen (or other cabinets) and would love to have them looking great again AND without spending a fortune, having us paint your kitchen cabinets (also called refinishing) might be the answer.

A fresh coat of paint on cabinets can (and maybe some new hardware) can help you fall in love with them all over again 😍

An example of FCC work
There is a huge difference between having a painter paint your cabinets and having a professional cabinet painter prepare, repair, prime and spray paint your cabinets.

And, Yes, WE REALLY DO HAVE A 28 Step process when it comes to refinishing cabinets.

Step 4: We thoroughly degrease every inch of the cabinet boxes we will be refinishing.

Our Goal:

To make it both incredibly easy and reasonably priced for you to update your cabinets!

Considering another option?

Step 6: We create an airtight seal on the boxes we will be sanding, priming and spray painting.

Maybe a different contractor? Take the time to compare us with any other professional cabinet refinisher in the area.

It is very important for you to know we aren’t painters who paint cabinets TOO.

We are professional cabinet painters and refinishers who do so much more than paint your cabinets.

If you’d like to find out how inexpensively we can paint your kitchen cabinets fill out the form below or give us a call at 919.210.4466 or (855)3Cabinet.

Step 8: We will hand sand for the first of up to 5 times.

Cabinet refinishing or painting isn’t all we do

We also offer refacing!

While most clients are very happy with our cabinet refinishing, if you’re looking to go beyond paint and really change the look of your cabinets then our re-facing option may be for you.

Re-facing involves painting the boxes that will remain and then putting new doors on to change the appearance.

This process is typically about 5 times more expensive than having us paint your cabinets but it is certainly a good way to give your kitchen a makeover.

FYI: Clients often think they lean toward refacing until they get the price AND realize they will often be buying lower quality raw wood cabinet doors and drawer fronts and they will still need to be painted.

Step 11: After the first sanding we thoroughly brush, wipe down, dust and sweep to ensure no debris gets in the paint.

Step 13: After the first coat of primer we will sand every surface again to refine, fill and smooth the boxes.

Cabinet Painting Done Right

So paint is paint and painters are painters, right?

That assumption causes many homeowners a lot of grief.

We are part of a nationwide network of refinishers and have exclusive finishes only we use.

We meet weekly in our mastermind group to stay up to date so we are using only the best tools and finishes.

Step 16: We will SAND the Boxes again looking again for missed imperfections or to ensure our repairs are as close to perfect as possible.

We can tell you more of what sets us apart when we talk but we go above and beyond anything a normal painter does to ensure you are overjoyed with your results!

What’s wrong with DIY?

Family cabinet coatings no no. Don't paint them yourself especially with a brush

You can absolutely Do It Yourself and get decent results.

There are a few  typical problems related to DIY that give homeowners a less than great results. Here are a few of the more common:

Brush strokes you can see. Using a high density foam brush can eliminate some of that issue.

Roller bubbles you can see. Again a high density foam roller can help.

Failing to sand between every coat leaving an unsmooth finish. We start before we prime then sand between every coat (up to 5 times depending on the job.)

Make sure and talk with the professionals at the paint counter and buy high quality primer and finish products. Buying in bulk we spend just under $100/gallon for primer and finish products.

Here is a really good  article on mistakes to avoid when doing it yourself.
